THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS IN GLOBAL MENTAL HEALTH

Generation Mental Health’s Fellowship program will provide Fellows with core foundational training in a range of areas, such as research skills, concepts in global mental health, and cultural competency. Training will occur before, during, and after the Fellowship.

PRE-DEPARTURE TRAINING

Fellows will complete web-based modules and in-person training to delve further into the core skills needed to succeed during their placements.

DURING PLACEMENT TRAINING

A library of additional resources will be available throughout the Fellows’ placement, tailored for each Fellow based on their needs.

POST-PLACEMENT LEARNING

Fellows will be matched with an Advisor, who will support them in processing their experiences and ensure that learnings are transferred to their home mental health contexts.

THE TRADITIONAL NORTH TO SOUTH PLACEMENT MODEL

Traditionally, health-based placement opportunities send people from the global North to the global South. Generation Mental Health challenges this model by opening our Fellowship program to people from all countries, and placing them based on where their skills are most needed.

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL

We encourage applicants from all countries, genders, religions, abilities and educational backgrounds. Our holistic and inclusive application process will focus on applicants’ ability to succeed on the ground.

FINANCIAL + LOGISTICAL SUPPORT

We will financially support our Fellows throughout their placements. In addition, the Generational Mental Health team will provide any ongoing logistical support the Fellow needs to ensure their success.

MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCES FOR FELLOWS AND HOST ORGANISATIONS

Generation Mental Health is determined to create an experience that benefits both Fellows and host organisations.

MUTUAL MATCHING

We match Fellows with their host organisation based on needs of the organisation and mutual interest. By doing this, we eliminate the need for overburdened organisations to screen applicants and ensure fulfilling matches for both parties.

EFFECTIVE SUPERVISION

Fellows will be matched with a supervisor at their host organisation. Supervisors will work with Fellows to develop a mutually beneficial work plan and provide guidance for the duration of their placement.

The GenMH team will hold a mediatory position between the host organisation and its Fellows.

OUR FELLOWS THROUGH THE FELLOWSHIP, AND EVERY STEP OF THEIR CAREER

From financial assistance to academic support, Generation Mental Health aims to provide the best support system for Fellows, both during the Fellowship and throughout their careers in global mental health.

GENMH NETWORK

All GenMH Fellows, host organisations, supervisors, and mentors, will become a part of the GenMH network. This network will allow Fellows to share their experiences and learn from each other. We envision the GenMH Network as a fruitful and lasting ground for the next generation of leaders in global mental health.

PROFESSIONAL IMPACT

Equipped with the training from their Fellowships and supported by our team in progressing their careers in global mental health, we anticipate that Fellows’ will be ready to take on impactful positions in the field.
